My sunday in Ohio was a mix of things.  Fun things of course, and great weather.  It had become warmer and warmer as the week progressed.  I'm not complaining.  I like sun and warmth.

Woman, Sweetie, woman's daughter and I decided to do a little shopping.  Yipee!!!  I think that Sweetie was especially happy to see the inside of a mall.  We fortified ourselves with a nice lunch at Applebys and headed in.  We started with the shoe department at Macys.  Luckily for me, my reason for smiling called me just as I was about to commit financial hari kari with a pair of black flats.  I pulled back from the edge of budget insanity and we continued through purses and then clothes.  We did a quick browse into another shoe store before browsing the Gap.  That's where Sweetie and I both found an incredible deal on a couple of tops.

Back home we were delighted to find that we were going to get a chance to sail on Mr. woman's sailboat!  I've been on ferrys and small harbor boats, but never a sailboat.  We put on appropriate clothes, lots of sunscreen and headed out to sail the lake.  We did a quick tour of the reproduction of the Nina and the Pinta that were docked near the Marina.

Dockside we learned about unique insect called a mayfly (I think, details are fuzzy).  Apparently they lay dormant on the bottom of the lake most of the year, but for a few days in the summer they come to the top to lay eggs before going back.  In that time they cover any non moving and sometimes moving surface.  They don't bite or anything, but they are one very unattractive insect!

After hosing off as many bugs as possible we all piled onto the boat and headed out.  The winds were lazy that day.  We motored out to the lake from the docks and caught the little wind that there was.  Afternoon sun warming us, people on the shore playing beach games and the gentle rocking of the boat as we lolled along.

 Ohio on Sunday 047

There appears to be a difference in the motion of a boat powered by an engine and one powered by a sail.  I am not sure how many people are sensitive to that, but apparently I'm one of them.  Oh yeah!  green Uni.  I was fine right up until we lost wind and the waves rocked us side to side.  I managed to keep all the bad stuff on the inside until we got dockside, but it was close.  It is a little embarrassing considering one of the occupations my reason for smiling has.

Back on dry land I discovered my Sweetie is a much better actress than I thought.  She had managed to keep that fact that she was as green around the gills as I was!  We recovered nicely on land, sipping gingerale to chase away the tummy grumblies.  As I enjoyed the cool evening on woman's deck we had one last surprise for the day.  Fireflies!  Neither of us had ever seen them.  I could have sat and watched them for hours, but the mosquitos not so much.  Sweetie was running amuck catching them in her hands, laughing.  What a nice ending to a great day.

Now that sounds like a good day, minus the greenness, lol. Glad you managed to keep it all in. That's neat how you were introduced to a couple of new insects, especially the fire flies. They sure are one of those things that when you grow up with them, you never lose that child like appreciation.

Hege - LOL well, I managed to scrape up a pretty child like appreciation of them at my current age!  I wish we had them in california.

That sounds like a really nice day.  :-)  Fireflies bring back a lot of childhood memories for me.  My cousins and I used to catch them and put them in glass Mason jars with holes punched in the lid.  We used to pretend they were our lanterns.  That was a lot of fun.CW

Love the picture of the lighthouse. Nicely done. The fireflies are waiting for you. I think they were impressed with you and Sweetie too.

CW - I hear the mason glass lantern story from a lot of people who grew up where they are common.  We weren't able to give it a go.   woman - LOL  I bet our sparklers made them jealous. ;)

That sounds so fun, and neat! I've never been on a sailboat either, I have a feeling I would be the seasick type. :PMy grandfather moved to Ohio with his parents from Italy, he grew up there. I've never been, is it beautiful?
